Amrani and chicken farm

04/07/2025

You all know Amrani already. He is the son of Mariamu, a big, little hero who has taken over the role of the head of the family and is in charge of many things. We know very well that although every help is literally life-saving for them, buying food, clothes and building a house is just not enough. The family now has a place to live, but what next? How will they support themselves? To reach self-sufficiency would be the greatest achievement. There is a great scarcity of work, especially for a woman who is physically handicapped and barely able to move around the house, children and housework. Breaking stone will hardly bring them a few shillings. This time, when I happily reunited with the family after three months, I asked Amrani, what he needs to buy. I was thinking about clothes, shoes, school supplies....but he wanted two living chickens (kuku is a collective name for both chicken and hen). He plans to sell the eggs and wants to give the money to his mom. Amrani is not a stupid boy at all. He is careful, kind, takes really good care of his family, goes to school and studies well. But you can see the worry in his face. The kind of worry that shouldn't be in the face of children. He doesn't get much opportunity to play. And we wish to see him laughing and having a good time. We really liked his idea. We didn't buy two chickens, we bought four :). We decided to hold on to Amrani's plan a little bit more. What better idea than one that someone comes up with on their own, right? The next time I come back, we're going to discuss with him a proposal to set up a small chicken farm, which he will look after and the profit from the eggs will help them provide food and basic necessities. So keep your fingers crossed and follow our story. And if you like the idea, you can donate for maybe one chicken :).
