Mundhir and Omar
Also during our second official trip we managed to do some good deeds at Zanzibar in cooperation with ZACYDO. Together, the workers selected two children who urgently needed medical care and necessary medication that they have to take for a long time due to their health condition. Both boys suffer from physical and mental disabilities and are in very difficult living conditions. Due to their financial situation, the boys' families are not able to provide the children with the necessary regular medical care and, in many cases, other basic necessities of life.
Mundhir lives with his mother and three other siblings. His father died when he was five years old. It is very difficult for his mother to take care of the family. The boy suffers from cerebral palsy. He was born with a very severe physical disability. He is unable to move, walk, or speak. His mental development is also strongly delayed. He stopped going to school some time ago because it was too difficult for his mother to carry him there every day. Although he did not learn much there, he had the opportunity to spend time with other children and be part of the community. So the most important thing of all was to get a wheelchair for him. So that he could participate in social life and manipulation of him would be easier for his mother. Mundhir was really happy with the gift and the very next day he went to the beach with his friends :). We also paid for his necessary medicines and bought basic food and toiletries for the whole family. Although the boy is now able to attend school thanks to his wheelchair, ZACYDO has another big challenge to solve. Unfortunately, local schools are unable to provide special access, aids or assistance to physically and mentally disabled children. In most cases, these children remain isolated at home. So let's keep our fingers crossed that the conditions at school can be improved for Mundhir so that he can be part of the local community and learn at least a little :).
Omar suffers from severe mental disability and strong epilepsy. He is not well physically either. He has several other siblings, but they do not live with him and his mother. After the death of their father, it was very difficult for the mother to take care of the children. Because of Omar's health and the need for full-time care, it has been extremely difficult for her to find a steady job. They ended up not only without food, but also without a roof over their heads. The situation went so far that it forced the mother to decide to leave the children in the care of other people who would look after them. But no one wanted to take Omar in. So he stayed with her. Later the mother managed to find a small house where she and her son took refuge. The monthly rent is 50.000,- Tanzanian shillings, which is not a small amount by local standards. Omar needs regular medical care and medication. So we have paid for all the recommended and prescribed medicines, vitamins and minerals that will last him for some time. We also helped with three months' rent and bought basic ingredients and hygiene items. The owner offered the family the house for sale for 7.000.000,- Tanzanian shillings. Having a home of their own would help the mother and Omar immensely. It would give mother a chance to improve their living situation and bring the family back together. To this day, ZACYDO has managed to raise 2.000.000,- Tanzanian shillings.
